华电电力科学研究院（简称“华电电科院”）原名电力工业部杭州机械设计研究所，始建于1956年，与电力工业产品质量标准研究所和国家能源局“国家能源分布式能源技术研发（实验）中心”合署办公，4个国家级检测中心、中国华电集团公司煤炭质检计量中心和中国华电集团公司动力技术研究中心挂靠华电电科院。
华电电力科学研究院是华电集团公司和电力行业发电技术研究和技术创新的机构，同时也是华电集团公司国内外技术合作和人才培养的平台。 目前建有国家级研发中心、国家CNAS认证实验室、省级重点实验室、省级院士专家工作站、博士后科研工作站等人才培养和科研平台。
